Applications Now Available for the 2009 Microenterprise Boost Program Award
The Abilities Fund is proud to announce the launch of its fourth annual grant program focused on women entrepreneurs with disabilities. The Abilities Fund is proud to showcase the strength and entrepreneurial spirit of women with disabilities! An eligible applicant of the Women and Company® Microenterprise Boost Program (WCMBP) Award is a woman microentrepreneur who meets the following minimum criteria:
  • Owns at least 51% of her business;
  • Has a current and sound business plan;
  • Is in need of additional capital and unable to access it (or is limited in access) through traditional or non traditional sources (e.g. savings, microloan, etc). Clients with numerous loans or loans of large amounts do not qualify. The intent of this program is to provide a "boost" of equity to those who truly need it;
  • Is considered a low or moderate income woman with a disability;
  • Is currently operating a business and that business is legal and has all necessary and appropriate business licenses. This grant is for women who are already in business;
  • Has a business that will be improved and strengthened by the infusion of an equity award of $3000-$5000;
  • Is currently involved in bettering her world through community service; and
  • Agrees to cooperate and share necessary information and data as it relates to the Women and Company® Microenterprise Boost Program Award. For example, one must share business and personal data, as well as permit use of photos, name and story by The Abilities Fund.
The WCMBP application is due by 5 PM EST Friday, March 13th, 2009. Awardees will be notified by March 27th, 2009. This year, unlike in other years, past WCMBP recipients are eligible and encouraged to apply for another grant.
