Rush University Medical Center

NOND would like to highlight the longstanding commitment of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Rush University Medical Center has been in the national forefront of institutions promoting disability rights for many years while addressing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Rush is not only an institution that provide care to people with disabilities in their hospital and out-patient facilities but is also a Health Sciences Educational institution.

Rush University College of Nursing hosted the first symposium addressing issues and challenges for students with disabilities titled, Symposium on Students with Disabilities: Nursing Education and Practice on April 10, 2003. During this symposium, NOND was founded by:  Karen McCulloh, IL, Stacey Carroll, MA, Gordon Ninde, CO, Leo Heifetz, IL, and Victoria Christenson, WA.
